MY STORY

ABOUT ME
Clay found me when I wasn't looking for it. I sat down at a wheel in Nelson, tried to centre a wet lump of earth, and that was that. It's been my primary obsession ever since.
I work across wheel throwing and handbuilding, making functional vessels and more sculptural, decorative pieces. Form, proportion, surface texture, and colour are what drive the work. My influences run through Scandinavian ceramics and mid-century studio pottery, and I'm always working towards that point where a piece feels both resolved and alive — where the shape is right, the surface has something to say, and nothing needs to be added or taken away.
After years of exploring clay largely on my own, sharing that knowledge felt like the natural next step. I run wheel throwing and handbuilding classes from my Nelson studio for all levels, and teaching has become as central to my practice as the making itself. There's something particular about watching someone find their footing with clay — the focus it demands, the small breakthroughs, and the moment something finally holds its shape. I find it genuinely rewarding every time.
Claybound is my Nelson studio — where I make, where I learn, where I teach. And where there's usually as much laughter as there is clay.
